Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Dr. John Tysdal, and you’re listening to the Southern Wellness Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Magnolia, Texas. Today we’re tackling something I get asked about all the time, and honestly, something I love talking about. We’re going to bust some of the biggest myths about what chiropractors actually do. Because there is a lot of misinformation out there, and I want you to feel confident and informed before you ever walk through our door.

So let’s start with the big one. You know what I hear a lot? People say, “Isn’t chiropractic just about cracking your back?” And I get it. That’s what shows up in videos online, and it looks dramatic. But here’s the thing, that sound you hear during an adjustment, that pop, that’s not bones cracking. It’s actually gas being released from the fluid inside your joints. Think of it like opening a soda can. The joint is simply moving into a better position, and that release of pressure is totally normal. It’s not dangerous. It’s not painful for most people. It’s actually often a relief.

Now, here’s what we’re really doing when we perform an adjustment. We’re working to restore proper motion to joints that have become restricted or misaligned. When your spine isn’t moving the way it should, it can put pressure on nerves, create muscle tension, and affect how your whole body functions. Our job is to find those problem areas and gently correct them so your body can do what it was designed to do, which is heal and move well.

Another myth I want to address is this idea that once you start chiropractic care, you have to go forever. I hear this one so much. And look, I understand why people are cautious about that. But here’s the truth. Your care plan is always up to you. Some people come in for a specific problem, we get them feeling better, and they’re on their way. Others choose to come in regularly for what we call wellness or maintenance care, kind of like going to the gym or getting your teeth cleaned. That’s a personal choice. We never pressure anyone. Our goal is to give you the tools and the relief you need, and then let you decide what works best for your life.

Here’s another one I want to clear up. Some folks think chiropractors only treat back pain. And while yes, back pain is a huge part of what we see, it is far from the whole picture. We work with neck pain, headaches, shoulder tension, hip discomfort, and even things like posture issues that come from sitting at a desk all day. If it involves your muscles, joints, or nervous system, there’s a good chance we can help or at least point you in the right direction.

So what can you do starting today? First, pay attention to how you’re sitting. Most of us spend hours hunched over a phone or a computer, and that adds up fast. Try to keep your shoulders back, your chin tucked slightly, and take breaks to stand up and move around. Second, if you’re dealing with any kind of nagging pain that just won’t go away, don’t wait on it. The longer those things linger, the harder they can be to address.

And that brings me to my favorite part, which is telling you that if you’ve been curious about chiropractic care, or if you’ve been living with discomfort that you’ve just been pushing through, I would love to sit down with you, talk through what’s going on, and figure out if we can help. There’s no pressure, no commitment, just a conversation about your health.

We are right here in Magnolia, Texas, and we would love to welcome you to the Southern Wellness Chiropractic family. You can give us a call, check us out online, or just stop by. We make it easy to get started.
