Acupuncture was developed in China thousands of years ago. It’s the practice of penetrating a needle through specific points on your skin in order to alleviate pain, treat nausea, decrease stress, and help with a variety of other symptoms. Acupuncture balances the nervous system and increases circulation making it easier for the body to heal itself without the use of medication.
Acupuncture works by stimulating points along the body. When thin, sterilized needles are inserted into these acupuncture points, they help balance out the body to restore health. The points chosen coincide with major nerve centers. The needles stimulate the nerves, causing them to release feel-good chemicals known as endorphins.

Acupuncture Treatment in the Magnolia Area
Depending on your health issue, our team may suggest using Acupuncture to relieve pain and stimulate proper holistic healing. This can be extremely valuable in your overall health. During your appointments, we’ll discuss if Acupuncture make sense for your care.
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine used to treat and alleviate pain caused by muscle strain and joint issues. Acupuncture was first practiced in China starting around 2000 BC, but its origins are unclear.
Acupuncture works by visiting a health care provider who will insert extremely thin, sterile needles into specific points along the body’s energy pathways (called meridians). The treatment is continued for 10-45 minutes.
When the needles are inserted and pressure is applied, it is stimulating the production of chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine that modify nerve impulses. These chemicals help relieve pain signals as well as stimulate natural healing in the body. There is evidence backing the claim that acupuncture has effects on psychological wellbeing as well as physical conditions.
People in pain often have low levels of endorphins and a release of those endorphins can suppress the sensation of pain. The points are also located near trigger points, spots on the body where pain radiates away from the center when pressed. Acupuncture may ease the stress on trigger points thereby lessening pain in that area.

How Is Dry Needling Different From Acupuncture?
Dry needling and acupuncture are completely different treatments. One of the only similarities between the two techniques is the equipment used – acupuncture needles. Dry needling specifically treats muscular pain and trigger points while acupuncture is a complete healing system that focuses on balancing a patient’s energy or Qi.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very thin. So thin, that most people do not feel much pain when they are inserted, especially in areas with thicker skin. There are some areas on the body where you might have more sensitive skin, but even in those spots, you should not be in pain when receiving Acupuncture treatment.
Here is a size comparison chart so you can see how thin an Acupuncture needle actually is.
The 12 Meridians of The Body
The human body is a complex system, and the traditional Chinese medical view is that illness results from an imbalance within the body. To restore balance and promote health, practitioners of acupuncture work to unblock the flow of energy along the body’s meridians. There are a total of 12 meridians, each one associated with a different organ system. For example, the heart meridian runs along the chest and arms, while the spleen meridian runs through the legs. Acupuncture points are located along these meridians and can be stimulated using needles, pressure, or heat. By restoring the flow of energy along the meridians, practitioners of acupuncture hope to promote balance and wellness within the body.

Really want to put 10 stars but I guess five will do. Dr. T is the one to see. He was kind, understanding and very informative. He made me feel comfortable. And in just one visit, he was able to stop some of my pain. I can’t wait for my next visits for more pain relief. Finally found my forever chiropractor!!!
This was my first visit with Dr. Tysdal, and I was extremely impressed. I’ve been to chiropractors before and was used to simply going in, explaining what was bothering me, getting adjusted, and leaving. Dr. Tysdal’s approach was completely different. He was incredibly thorough, took the time to evaluate my concerns, and explained everything in great detail so I fully understood what was going on and the plan to address it. My husband found him online, and I’m so glad he did! Dr. Tysdal was absolutely great, and I look forward to continuing treatment and getting my issue resolved. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a chiropractor who genuinely cares and takes the time to provide exceptional care.
I had recently aggravated an old injury and the only way to fix it is through chiropractic. I appreciate Dr. Tysdale's work in getting me back in alignment. I have hypermobility (Ehlers-Danlos) and so chiropractic therapy is critical for me. I thought that I hadn't needed it for a while, but the truth is, my body compensates for that mis-alignment and I need lifelong care to avoid spinal surgery as long as possibly. Thank you, Dr. Tysdale, for helping me feel better and releasing that compensated pain.
I was experiencing lower back pain that was affecting my sleep and ability to play with my young son whom I am with all day. After doing some quick research I came across Southern Wellness Chiropractic and could not be happier. After he developed a plan for me I could immediately feel improvement. I recommended my husband visit him after injuring his back at the gym. His x ray actually revealed an issue that he was unaware of and Dr. Tysdal developed a plan to begin treating the issue. He and his staff are great to work with, always friendly and great with our son when he joins us on visits.
I was referred here by my wife after I experienced some lower back pain after a workout at the gym. Dr. Tysdal was very thorough during my first visit with a questionnaire, face to face discussion and x rays prior to treatment. He actually revealed an issue that I was unaware of and developed a plan to begin treating the issue. He and his staff are great to work with, always friendly and great with our toddler when he joins us on visits.

This was an excellent choice. I felt heard and listened to and encouraged to improve my health overall. We maintain our vehicles but our bodies also need to be tuned up as well. I would highly recommend SWC and will do so if given the chance.
After seeing an Instagram video of Dr Tysdal talking about adjustments for migraine sufferers, I knew I had to get in! After an xray we were able to find out what’s going on and he came up with a great plan to get me fixed up and back to normal! He was very thorough, informative and kind. I look forward to my future visits and highly recommend him!

I had a great experience with Dr. John Tysdal! When I first went to see him I could barely move my neck and I was in extreme pain that i could barely handle. Instead of going to urgent care my granddaughter suggested I go see a chiropractor. I'm 86 years old and was a bit nervous about seeing a chiropractor for the first time in my life. He used an activator to adjust me and was very gentle and kind. After just one adjustment, I could move my neck from left to right. After about 3 adjustments or so and I am loving the result. I am getting better each time and am out of pain.
I can't recommend this chiropractor enough! I've been dealing with back pain since high school and found so much relief. Dr. Tysdal is super nice and always takes me seriously.
